Stat 8130 is an online course at Augusta University that teaches the basic principles and methods of epidemiology. Our goal was to enhance student participation and engagement through creating an immersive outbreak experience within the bounds of the Desire2Learn (D2L) learning management system. My role in this was to completely change the look of the typical D2L course website and implement a custom look through HTML, CSS, and Jquery to match the outbreak story we were trying to tell. In addition to the website, we created interactive outbreak maps, a newspaper interface, discussion boards, and a microsite to promote the course before launch.
